Jay-Z Takes Shots At Drake, Nicki Minaj, Dame Dash, Tory Lanez & Kanye In Roots Picnic Freestyle

It was not long ago that Jay-Z spoke on how battle rap may not be the best thing for hip hop during an interview in the aftermath of the Kendrick-Drake feud. However, now that things are personal, Jay-Z is back on the offensive.

During his performance with The Roots, Jay-Z freestyled on stage and took shots at a bunch of rappers that have irked him in the last year or so. Nobody was spared. Drake, Nicki Minaj, Tory Lanez, Kanye West & Dame Dash all got what was coming to them.

Perhaps the most prominent shot was at Drake, who took subliminal shots at Jay-Z on ‘Janice STFU’ off his latest album Iceman. While Drake did not name Jay-Z, he pretty much insinuated he was talking about Jay-Z by wordplaying ‘Jigga’ and ‘Roc Nation’ in a couple of bars that go “You boys got big on my name, that’s big enough/We know how you OGs rocking already my n***a, the jig is up.

In standard Hov fashion, Jay-Z clapped back during his freestyle with this iconic set of bars: “The jig is up/N***a I’m up 10/ Wrong chart, champ, you gotta look up again/N****s look up to HOV/I never looked up to them.”

He also went at Dame Dash with “Another one fumbled his, wonder how I get the blame. N****s teeth is tumbling out they mouth and somehow I’m the one who did it. It’s a murder mystery, gang,” referencing an interview where Dame’s teeth apparently fell out while talking.

Hov also fired back at Nicki Minaj for constantly talking trash about Tidal, Jay-Z and Roc Nation, rapping something to the tune of “That lady back on that stuff, she sounds like she’s in love with ‘em/Her Ken can’t even… pick they kid… enough of them/A rapper can’t be my opp, I got MAGA Republicans/Those shots came from the very top of the government, good luck with them.”

Jay-Z didn’t even spare long time collaborator, Kanye, and sent some warning shots his way. He rapped,

“You ever heard of wonder-kin? My children are some of them, have you n****s have no shame? You really wanna get under my skin? I’ll really get under ya skin, ask Un how I’m playing…Y’all thugs with y’all thumb again, everybody thinks they’re the ones insane, you’re no maniac, watch how he sane he acts in my presence, n****s shrink” insinuating that Ye can only talk that talk on social media. Real life may be another story altogether.

Tory Lanez might be behind bars, but that doesn’t mean he gets spared from some bars by Jay either. Rapping at who seems to be Tory’s father, Jay-Z said, “The ROC’s not crumbling, till the leprechaun magically run out of pranks, your son on a federal jail line mumbling something about having too much in his drink. You know how dumb that is?” Apparently, Hov was referring to a call Tory made to Kelsey Harris explaining that he was drunk during the whole debacle with Megan Thee Stallion and the shooting that followed.

To anyone that thought the Jay-Z interview addressing battle rap was a weakness, it is a clear message: do not poke one of the best MCs to ever do it. What do you think?

Judge Concludes Tory Lanez Paid Blogger, Reinstates Megan Thee Stallion’s Defamation Lawsuit Victory

Federal judge Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga reversed her setting aside of Megan Thee Stallion‘s defamation victory against blogger Milagro Gramz on May 29, meaning that Megan will still be entitled to the amount that was earlier set aside.

The blogger had made statements about Megan, which were found defamatory by a jury. Previously, the judged had waived off the win on procedural grounds, which basically meant that Megan failed to notify Gramz before filing a defamation suit.

However, such provisions are made to protect journalists. In this case, it was found that the ‘journalist’ in question had in fact been paid by Tory Lanez and his father to slander Megan Thee Stallion’s reputation, thereby disqualifying Gramz from these provisions in place.

“Because the trial record shows that defendant was commissioned by the Petersons to publish or broadcast the three defamatory statements, the court finds as a matter of law that defendant was not entitled to pre-suit notice,” the judge noted.

“I’m truly grateful for the judge’s thoughtful and thorough consideration in reinstating the jury’s defamation verdict and holding the defendant fully accountable for all of her actions. I’m ready to finally close this chapter, and I hope this sends a powerful message that spreading lies and defamatory statements has clear consequences,” said Megan as reported by Rolling Stone in the aftermath of her win.

Gramz now owes the complete $75,000 that was previously awarded in favor of Megan Thee Stallion.

Future & Tyla Join Forces on World Cup Song ‘Game Time’: Listen

Future and Tyla have joined forces on a new song ‘Game Time’ for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The track was announced a few days ago and teased yesterday, leading to excitement among other fan bases as it’s the first time the two are collaborating on a song together. Although Future does his regular thing on this, Tyla brings a new energy, deviating from her Amapiano/Afro sound and comfortably taking on the trap vibes with her rap verses.

Listen to the track below.

Tyla, Future and Rema are among the artists tapped for the FIFA World Cup’s U.S. opening ceremony in June. They are set to headline the Los Angeles show on June 12 alongside Katy Perry, BLACKPINK member and White Lotus actress LISA and Latin superstar Anitta.

Latto Releases New Album ‘Big Mama’ Feat. Doja Cat, 21 Savage, GloRilla & More: Listen

it is a bittersweet moment, as Latto has finally released her last album Big Mama on streaming platforms. Jam packed with 17 tracks in total, the album marks the end of Latto’s career in music, which is a decision that was hinted at on social media after Latto’s foray towards motherhood in real life.

The album title, in that sense, is rather fitting. Big Mama is an insightful peek into motherhood & where Latto is in life with her state of mind, and features some heavy hitters from the industry. These include GloRilla, 21 Savage, Doja Cat, Mariah the Scientist & Teyana Taylor.

The features are all special, but of course, the 21 Savage feature seems the most heartwarming one. After years of rumoured dating, it has now become evidently clear that the two not only share a deep relationship together, but that they are also now parents together. Check out the (apparently) final album from Latto below!

Freddie Gibbs Releases New 3 Song EP ‘RBT’: Listen

Freddie Gibbs is out with a new short 3 song EP, but it packs a solid punch regardless of runtime. Title RBT, the name is a play on the word ‘rabbit,’ and sees Gibbs race through 3 tracks with unsurprising ease. If anything, the project reaffirms his abilities as a sharp rapper.

Released via AWAL, the project seems to be an independent offering from Freddie Gibbs. The EP pretty much has no features, aside from what seems to be an uncredited feature on the final song of the project ‘Axxtion,’ which could also be a sample.

The production on the three songs is minimalistic, sophisticated and tasteful all at once. Among many things, the project deals with issues of institutional shortcomings, depression and deep introspection. The result is something that is just the right length for a quick but profound listening experience from a rapper often underestimated. Check it out below!

J. Cole & Cam’ron Reach Legal Settlement Over ‘Ready ’24’ Lawsuit

There’s been new development in what was an awkward cultural moment in the industry earlier this year — Cam’ron and J. Cole have finally officially made amends. For the uninitiated, we are referring to Cam’ron filing a legal suit against J. Cole over a song on his mixtape Might Delete Later.

Previously, Cam’ron had claimed that Cole only gave him a co-writing credit on the song ‘Ready ’24,’ even though his vocals appeared on the record. He also claimed he never received any royalties or financial compensation for his work on the song, and was instead offered a podcast appearance (if not a verse in return) that never happened.

The two squashed tensions earlier this year, when Cole in fact decided to show up to Cam’ron’s podcast — even participating in a skit to address the absurdity and awkwardness of the entire situation. Now, loose ends have been tied up with the two having reached an amicable settlement on May 26.

Attorneys on both end remarked that the two have reached an “agreement in principle” to end the matter, and that they’re in the process of “finalising the settlement papers.” The details of the settlement, however, have been kept private. Well, all’s well that ends well!
