Milagros Mumenthaler is an Argentine filmmaker and screenwriter who has lived between Geneva and Buenos Aires since she was a child. Her debut feature, Abrir puertas y ventanas (2011), premiered at the Locarno Film Festival, where it won the Golden Leopard for Best Film, the Best Actress Award, and the FIPRESCI Prize—establishing her as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Argentine cinema.
She returned to Locarno in 2016 with her second feature, La idea de un lago. In 2025, she premiered Las corrientes, selected for the Toronto, New York, and San Sebastián film festivals; at the last, it received the RTVE “Otra mirada” Award. Her fiction work is often marked by an intimate tone and unsettling emotional atmospheres.
Jonás Trueba is a Spanish filmmaker who has built a body of eight feature films over the past fifteen years. Working with a fairly consistent crew and ensemble of actors, he has crafted a warm cinematic universe—one where human relationships, literature, philosophy, and cinema itself take center stage.
He has directed films such as Todas las canciones hablan de mí (2010), La reconquista (2016), La virgen de agosto (2019), the documentary Quién lo impide (2021), and, more recently, Volveréis (2023)—works that have screened at festivals including San Sebastián, Gijón, Karlovy Vary, and the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes, where he received the Award for Best European Film.
Here, Mumenthaler and Trueba meet to reflect on the possibility of resisting antagonism and conflict as the default engines of fiction.

Milagros Mumenthaler es una directora y guionista argentina cuya vida ha transcurrido desde muy joven entre Ginebra y Buenos Aires. Su ópera prima, Abrir puertas y ventanas, se estrenó en 2011 en el Festival de Locarno, donde obtuvo el Leopardo de Oro a Mejor Película, el Premio a la Mejor Actriz y el Premio de la Crítica FIPRESCI, catalputándola así como una de las voces más interesantes del cine argentino más reciente.
En 2016 regresó a Locarno con su segundo largometraje La idea de un lago. En 2025 estrenó Las corrientes, seleccionado en los festivales de Toronto, Nueva York y la Competencia Oficial de San Sebastián, donde obtuvo el premio Otra mirada RTVE. Sus ficciones se han caracterizado por un tono intimista e inquietantes atmósferas emocionales.
Por otro lado, Jonás Trueba es un director español que ha cosechado en 15 años una filmografía de ocho largometrajes. Mediante el trabajo con un crew y un reparto más o menos constantes, ha creado un cálido universo de personajes y escenarios en los que las relaciones humanas, la literatura, la filosofía y el cine mismo ocupan un lugar central.
Ha dirigido películas como Todas las canciones hablan de mí, La reconquista, La virgen de agosto, el documental Quién lo impide y más recientemente Volveréis, obras seleccionadas en festivales como San Sebastián, Gijón, Karlovy Vary y la Quincena de Cineastas de Cannes, donde obtuvo el Premio a la Mejor Película Europea.
